About Frankie Cosmos
Greta Kline’s earliest music as Frankie Cosmos embodied the DIY ethos: move fast, tour hard and don’t let your production limitations get in the way of a song that feels real and true. While the singer-songwriter has refined her earnest indie-pop sketches ever so slightly over the years, she continues to seek depth in simplicity. Born in 1994 in New York City to actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, Kline kept a low profile as a teenager, finding inspiration in her hometown’s anti-folk scene and uploading her lo-fi bedroom recordings under names like Ingrid Superstar and The Ingrates at a prolific pace. As Frankie Cosmos, she’s widened her orbit, bringing in a band for the first time for her pithy and twee 2014 album, Zentropy. Over a more deliberate collection of short-but-sweet releases, she and her band have built an intricate universe of minimalist melodies punctuated with wit and sincerity, touches of piano and synths, and the same fullhearted immediacy of Kline’s first homespun creations.
